Time to invest in a coat: What you need to know

3 min read

In Autumn, we tend to put away lighter colours and pastels, and look towards earthy tones that reflect the changing season.

Likewise, the fabrics change from linens, cottons and silks to cashmeres and wools. The construction of the coat may also reflect that need for comfort and cosiness that we naturally feel as the nights draw in. This might mean you opt for a raglan sleeve rather than a structured, tailored shoulder. A fabric belt can also add a more relaxed finish to a coat, making it the perfect piece to dress up for the office, or dress down with knitwear, jeans and trainers at the weekend.

A tweed or check gives a traditional British tailored feel, as does a classic trench coat. If you opt for something different, a burgundy or a navy wool will never go out of style.

At Richard George we use the finest wools. Whether it’s Australian merino, a cosy cashmere blend or baby alpaca from the Andes, let me help you find the fabric that – to you – says  warm, inviting Autumn evenings and crisp sunny winter days.

Whether you’re new to the world of tailoring or an already valued client, we would be delighted to welcome you to our exclusive showroom in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside, by appointment only.
